Cob and Pen

Poem
Upon the glassy creek glides —
the bevy of swans drifts down the creek.
Cob and Pen, mates for life,
trumpeting the bond.
Cob, vagabond of the horde,
floating to the wilderness of the lake,
ogles the pen across the pond —
love at first glance.
Pen, introvert quester,
ignores the gaze of the cob.
Love beckons the wild, yet pride muffles its call,
sweeping away the yearning to love.
Still, love surges — unyielding,
devotion uttered in wordless vows.
Cob fathoms the pen’s longing,
and questions the reticence.
Affection aligned but voiceless,
pen hums — soundless.
Their muffled melody
still echoes eternal beneath the quiet pond.
